Dropped shampoo cap in shower, clogged drain! HELP!?

I know the most common culprit of clogged drains is hair, but this time it's not. We never got around to buying a stopper for our shower, and today I dropped a small plastic cap that went right down and now after a minute in the shower it's filled with inches of water. We have a crank snake from the hardware store but I was unsuccessful doing anything. My boyfriend is out of town for the weekend, so I'm on my own. I thought about calling a plumber but money is tight! Any suggestions?? Dropped shampoo cap in shower, clogged drain! HELP!?
One thing to try before dis-assembly. If you have, or know anyone that has a high power shop vac, I would try that first. Since shop vac's are usually wet or dry, try running water till it stops draining, then try vacuuming. If its a small cap, maybe you will get lucky. That one you have to take apart. But see if someone else has a better idea. Don't ruin everything over some bizarre answer either! I believe you will have to take it apart.
