You tried a steak knife??? I assume you can see the lid and were trying to stick the knife into it so you could pull it out?

If you can see it you might try to use an electric drill and drill a hole in it. You will have to push down hard to keep the cap from turning and be ready to stop the drill immediately so that you don't drill into the pipe.

once you have a hole in the lid, take the wire and bend a very small ';L'; shape on the end.(make it short enough it will fit through the hole) --pushing the wire against the side of the hole in the lid, pull the lid out.

If you can't see it but can get to the pipe, take a saw and cut the pipe where you need to to get to the lid then take the lid out and go to a hardware store and buy a coupler joint and glue the pipe back together. Actually, you might want to buy the coupler joint (you may need two) before you cut the pipe so that you will cut the pipe in a location where the joint will be able to fit when you do get around to gluing it back together.

Make certain you get the right glue for your pipe.

If you can't see the lid or have access to the pipe, you had better be asking about patching sheet rock.WHITE RAIN SHAMPOO CAP JAMMING MY DRAIN, NEED ANSWERS!!!?
Shiftles has the best answer.... you can do this!
If the lid is dry, put masking tape or duck tape on the end of a screw driver, with sticky side out. Just press the tape into the lid to get it stuck to the tape %26amp; pull it out.
try using a bunch of sticky tape on the end of a stick it works for sink drains. Good luck
It's time to call in the professional to get your plastic cap out of the drain.

Unless you have a local rental agency that has plumbing snakes, you are more likely to create more harm (and expense) than if you simply call the man and let him fish out the offending shampoo cap.

Shop around for the best price and see what they charge to just come out and look at your problem.

Good luck.
My husband uses an old wire clothes hanger he turns it into a snake and does everything he can to pull everything out... then complains to me about how much of my long curly hair he pulled out. He is so sweet! Want him to come over?

Good luck.
If it is not down too far try a long handled ';cork screw'; that might work.

Best of Luck
If you can get below the drain, remove the trap. That is where you will find the cap and replace. I just cleaned mine and found several caps inside. Good luck.
Borrow a Wet/Dry shop vac and see if that will dislodge it. You might have to seal the area around the hose.
