Is there anyway to do this without calling a plummer? And if you do have to call a plummer what would they do to get it out?
Thanks. How do you get a shampoo cap out of the drain?
Stab it with an icepick to make a hole in it
Then make a little ';L'; shaped thing out of a paperclip, put it through the hole and lift the cap out.How do you get a shampoo cap out of the drain?
Is it a sink drain or a tub drain?
If it is a sink drain, it is likely caught in the p-trap, which is under the sink. They are often screwed together and can be taken apart for just such situations as the one you are in.
It will look more like a j than a p, but check it to see if it can be disassembled by unscrewing the inch and a half nuts.
If it can, undo them, remove the cap, and reassemble.
If it is a tub drain, or a glued p trap, you may want to go to the hardware store and buy a small grabber tool that uses some small ';jaws'; to grab and hold small objects from the pipes.
If it's still where you can see it, place an old nylon stocking over the metal (hand held) section of your vacuum, and see if the vacuum has enough suction to lift it out. Be sure to use the stocking over the end of the metal tube to keep the cap from being sucked into the vacuum.
Remove the trap and use a stick or something to push it back up from the bottom.
